Meet Mr.Jones, one of three elementary school teachers on Banana Island. He’s a history expert, following in the footsteps of his grandfather. He speaks passionately about the importance of not hiding from this country’s past, but instead learning from it. Through the trees and past his school, he leads us to a spot in the middle of the forest, where there are some scattered stone remains next to a large ditch. Here, he explains, slaves were held before being inspected and transported over seas. Unhealthy slaves were thrown into the ditch.
